The Sweetest Thing

The Sweet Serenades are a Swedish duo (Martin and Mathias) who create “Jungle Rock, or Testosterone Pop”, both of which sound pretty awesome, to be honest.
The music the pair put out, however, is more akin to the sweetly melancholic, slightly wistful indie pop produced by acts such as The Shins or Peter, Bjorn and John, with some Victoria Bergsman-style harmonies on my favourite track from the bunch Martin from the band sent me, “Coming Closer”.
The second track, “I Can Never Die”, is similar to the idiosyncratic Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, mentioned in the Serenades’ bio. Kazoos, a fast delivery, but with vocals which are a lot less of an, ahem, “acquired taste” than Alec Ounsworth’s.
The third and final song Martin sent me, “First Taste of Trouble”, plays out like a more laid-back Strokes track (again, an influence mentioned in the band’s bio, which tends to be pretty much on the money most of the time. Saves me the trouble, eh?), which more approaches the idea of “Testosterone Pop” I have in my head (ie “Eye of the Tiger”) and is also very, very good.
I predict that the bloggers of the world will be all on these guys once their debut album is released later this year. Preview some of their songs below, or buy their EP! And you should, as it’s very good. So go buy it! Now!
