Mix #13 - Sad Indie Boys

Since today seems to be the day of keeping to promsises, I guess it’s time for the (previously weekly, now monthly) Akuhei Bakery mix.

This month, it’s “Sad Indie Boys”; and it does exactly as it says on the tin. While not all the songs sound sad (although Weezer, Lightspeed Champion and The Smiths definetly do), they all have a somehwat melancholic feel, in their lyrics, general sound or otherwise (especially the opening Mystery Jets track: ” Nothing more nothing less, One night of love to put my head in a mess, Is that you on the bus? Is that you on the train? You wrote your number on my hand, And it came off in the rain”).

Same with the Joy Division-aping Interpol, We Are Scientists and Grandaddy’s aching nostalgia. And, while Dntel and Orange Juice don’t seem that “sad”, they’ve always had a bit of a melancholic air about them for me - the Orange Juice one may be explained due to it’s appearance in that Hallam Foe film.
