Sigur Rós acknowledge they talk bollocks; preview new album

That Icelandic ensemble that create life-affirming baroque pop for BBC wildilfe programmes, Sigur Rós, preview their new album Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (English: “With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly”, which sounds a bit Godspeed You Black Emperor!y to me) with song “Goobledigook”, which I like to think is there way of…not confirming, but acknowledging that the “Hopplish” language Jón Þór Birgisson sings in is utter bollocks.

The song has the similar falsetto vocals and epic sound your used to, with a bit of that stompy Spanish samba sound mixed in. It’s…interesting.

The album, which is released June 23, also features the groups first song in English, entitled ” Alright”. The album will also be available for pre-order on June 2nd on the band’s official media site, along with an exclusive stream of the album from June 9th.

Burnt To A Crisp

Awesome Leeds indie-eletcro group Shut Your Eyes And You’ll Burst Into Flames today announced that they are splitting up :-(

From their MySpace…

So we split up. We always said if one of us wanted to move on then that would be the end and unfortunately that time has come. Without the five of us in a room, hammering our influences together, picking over the smallest of details and arguing about genres it just wouldn’t be the same.

I think it is safe to say we are all gutted it didn’t work out. We never really got to grips with certain aspects of the music industry and in the end that stopped us from progressing as far as we would have liked.

Some good friends of ours have offered to release the last batch of songs we recorded – hopefully we’ll confirm the details of that soon. Also on the way will be a bunch of new projects and possibly a new band, again more on that later.

Thanks to everyone that listened, all the bands we played with, all the friends we made along the way – it’s been an amazing experience.

Wow, way to upstage my birthday, jerks.

New music, good music?

Hey kids! New (ish) music!

First up, we’ve got a little preview of Beck’s new album with superstar producer Dangermouse. The minute-and-a-half snippet, entitled “Chemtrails” is…odd. The vocals don’t really sound like Mr Hansen; all wispy and distant. The music itself is a similar sort of break-beat thing DM has been doing on his more hip-hop oriented albums. At first listen, I was a bit disappointed by the track; it’s growing on me with time, though. Possibly better to keep it as an album track, than release it as a single.

Next up, The Hold Steady have new song “Sequestered in Memphis” streaming on their MySpace, previewing new album Stay Positive. The song, somewhat disappointingly, doesn’t take the almost post-punk sound of the album’s title track; instead, it’s back to classic Springsteen-esque 70s rock. Piano and clap-chant-sing-a-long, and all. Which is no bad thing, and it doesn’t seem to be wearing thin yet.
