After that whole debacle about releasing a 36-track instrumental album, independently, Nine Inch Nails (aka Trent Reznor and friends) have now released a new, full track (that means vocals and everything!) song via their website.
The track, entitled “Discipline”, was apparently mastered less than 24 hours prior to release, and, as I said, free for you to download from the link above. The song itself is…okay, in a similar vein to the more reserved/less creepy stuff done on With Teeth and Year Zero, but it’s kinda plodding. Digging the little “March of the Pigs”-style piano that comes in halfway through, though.
Oh, and also, the MP3 contains an embedded album art image and the comment “Go to www.nin.com May 5″. So, another new album from Reznor and co? Even if they are somewhat “meh”, at least he know releases one every six months or so. Maybe after a couple more we might be able to piece together a truely good album…
