Turner & Kane

Favourite Worst Nightmare, T’ Arctic Monkeys sophomore effort from last year, was sort-of dissapoting – there were some good songs, but it was nowhere near the dizzying heights of their debut.
It seems that Alex Turner is determined to resolve this transgression, however, with his new venture, The Last Shadow Puppets, a collaboration with Miles Kane, of the rather-good but dearly-departed The Little Flames, and more recently of The Rascals.
The title track from the pair’s upcoming album, The Age of the Understatement, is currently available to stream on the group’s website, is pretty darn good, which bodes well for the album. It seems Turner has been soaking up those Western soundtracks since sampling some organ from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly soundtrack for “505″ another pretty darn good track from the Monkey’s aformentioned second album (a track which, perhaps uncoincidentally, Kane played guitar). The tracks is like a less space-age version of Muse’s “Knight of Cydnoia” – although, despite the best efforts of The Last Shadow Puppets, the video probably won’t be anywhere near as awesome – but the songs pretty cool!

EDIT: Also, as I’ve just seen on Graveyardshiftshane’s blog, the band have released a pretty freaking weird video for the song too. Enjoy”
