2008 Preview: Panic At The Disco

Panic At The Disco (sans exclamation point) made a triumpthant return to the world of music on January 28th with their new, download-only (ugh) single “Nine In The Afternoon”, their first new material since 2005’s A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out which, despite certain labels placed upon the band (I’ll admit they do have a fondness for spikey fringes, eyeliner and a flair for drama), was one-half fun electro-rock, one-half bombastic baroque pop, and all great.
“Nine In The Afternoon” previews the band’s forthcoming album Pretty. Odd.,which is due to be released on March 25th and, if this song is anything to go by, the quartet have stopped moaning and quoting Chuck Palahniuk and sound positivley joyous on this song, and somewhat (later) Beatles-y! It seems they are taking the more orchestral pop route of the second half of Fever…, which is really for the best. Dunno what all the raven-haired 14-year-olds will make of it, mind.
