2008 Preview: Panic At The Disco

panic-at-the-disco-03.jpg

Panic At The Disco (sans exclamation point) made a triumpthant return to the world of music on January 28th with their new, download-only (ugh) single “Nine In The Afternoon”, their first new material since 2005’s A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out which, despite certain labels placed upon the band (I’ll admit they do have a fondness for spikey fringes, eyeliner and a flair for drama), was one-half fun electro-rock, one-half bombastic baroque pop, and all great.

“Nine In The Afternoon” previews the band’s forthcoming album Pretty. Odd.,which is due to be released on March 25th and, if this song is anything to go by, the quartet have stopped moaning and quoting Chuck Palahniuk and sound positivley joyous on this song, and somewhat (later) Beatles-y! It seems they are taking the more orchestral pop route of the second half of Fever…, which is really for the best. Dunno what all the raven-haired 14-year-olds will make of it, mind.

2008 Preview/Mixtape: Cut Copy

Mellow Australian electronic trio Cut Copy follow up 2004’s rather excellent, yet criminally overlooked Bright Like Neon Love with new album In Ghost Colours, which comes out (in Oz, at least) in March. So, as is becoming the norm other the past month, I has a preview trrrrrack (sorry, those Max Headroom trails on Channel 4 are getting to me), which is called “Lights And Music”, and is the aural exquivalent of going to a disco in the North Pole with the robots out of Battlestar Galactica. Or something.

The trio have also put together a mixtape, obviously hoping to draw in the hardcore hip-hop audience for this album, called “So Cosmic”, which I also have for download. To see the group’s analysis of “So Cosmic”, why not take a look at their blog?
